EXPLORING STRUCTURES & MACHINES WITH LEGO© (SK - grade 1)
Emerging engineers will explore basic structures and simple machines while strengthening their fine motor skills. Using specialized LEGO© Duplo, they will build sturdy structures, and create simple mechanical devices using levers, pulleys, gears, wheels and axles. Basic engineering concepts will be learned through LEGO© games. Projects will include vehicles, bridges, tools and amusement rides. Instructor: Ian Dudley

AFTERSCHOOL CHESS (6 - 11 years)
There are not many activities that will hold a room full of children in complete silence. Chess is one of those activities. Numerous studies have shown that teaching chess to children has many positive benefits, including enhanced concentration, increased mathematical ability, and higher self-esteem. Each weekly chess session consists of 45 minutes of instruction with a large demonstration board, and 30 minutes of play. Parents should be cautioned that their own self-esteem may suffer after their child is proudly able to defeat them at chess upon completion of this course! Each child must bring his/her own chess board and pieces. The most popular chess set in schools and clubs throughout Canada, (vinyl roll-up board, large plastic pieces, carry tube and rules) can be purchased for $20 through the instructor.

A beginner course that introduces new recruits to the world of Warhammer 40K. They will be learning how to play the game, the basics of building and painting a Warhammer 40k army and how to build simple terrain. At the end of the course each participant will leave with a starter unit and piece of terrain that they can use in their own campaigns. The emphasis of the

This is a program for young aspiring rock'n rollers to build their skills as songwriters as they work to compose an original song or two (time and skill level permitting) over an 11- week period. In the final week, the songs will be recorded ``live off the floor”. Once the songs have been mixed and mastered at Mach One Music Studios, each participant will receive a CD demo with songs written and recorded by all the bands in the program. The grand finale will be a live performance by all bands at the G.C.C. to show off their stuff!
We will provide a rehearsal space, sound system, drums, 2 guitar amps, a bass amp, and keyboards. Participants will supply their own instruments (guitar, bass, drum sticks, etc.)
INSTRUCTORS: J.D. Robertson of Mach One Music Studios in the Glebe will facilitate the program. J.D. is a local musician/songwriter/producer with 25 years of experience in the music biz'.
